Middle East Memorial...

I have to admit I'd never heard of this memorial to our fallen military members...

It's in Marseilles, IL off I-80.  Anybody else know about this or has ever been there?

And it came on the news last night that Gen Norman Schwarzkopf died at age 78. He was the coalition lead in 1991 in the first Gulf War.

  1. I haven't seen this either, but I am alerting my IL peeps so they can check it out. Thanks!

  2. I'm not aware of this one. Must be new with the conversion of part of the old ammunition plant grounds.

Marsalles, IL is where the doppler radar is for the Chicago area. It is somewhat close to Joliet. The only other memorial I am aware of in that area is the memorial to the people killed in the arsenal blast of 42.

  3. He also, if you recall, advocated marching right on into Baghdad.

  5. I think that the reason that we don't have one in DC is because they anticipate a lot more war dead in the Middle East and Southwest Asia (Afghanistan/Pakistan) and they don't know how much of the scarce Capital area to reserve for the granite slabs.

Thank you for sharing. I mourn the death of The Bear with you.

  7. CP/Agirl- You're welcome.

    Anon- Didn't know that, thanks!

BZ- True! And Kennedy and Gephardt shut off the $$ for the fuel to do just that.

    Rev- Yep!

LL- Good point, but considering how long it's taken to get the WWII and Korean memorials... sigh...

    Brighid- Thanks!
